About Ozomatli

Ozomatli is a genre-blending Latin, hip-hop, funk, and global music band born in Los Angeles and shaped by the city’s cultural pulse. Led by six founding members—Asdru Sierra, Raul Pacheco, Ulises Bella, Wil-Dog Abers, Jiro Yamaguchi, and Justin Poree—Ozomatli delivers a trusted live experience rooted in connection, rhythm, and community. More than 30 years in, the band continues to evolve, creating new music while bringing diverse audiences together in celebration of unity, resilience, and joy.

If the city of Los Angeles had a soundtrack, it would be Ozomatli. Since forming in 1995, the six-piece band has blended Latin, hip-hop, funk, reggae, and global influences into a sound that reflects the energy, diversity, and rhythm of LA itself. In 2026, Ozomatli continues forward, rooted in that identity and energized by an active, creative chapter.

More than three decades in, Ozomatli is a trusted live experience and cultural event. Their performances are built on connection, shaped by the room and the moment, and known for their joy, spontaneity, and humanity. Each show feels specific, alive, and communal.

That approach has carried the band across the world and earned them three GRAMMY® Awards, iconic performances at the Hollywood Bowl, a TED Talk, and appearances on The Today Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and Austin City Limits. These milestones now serve as a foundation, supporting a band that continues to evolve.

At the core are the six founding members: Asdru Sierra (vocals, trumpet), Raul Pacheco (vocals, guitars), Ulises Bella (saxophone, vocals), Wil-Dog Abers (bass), Jiro Yamaguchi (percussion), and Justin Poree (vocals, percussion). Together, they live by a simple truth: “We take you around the world through the heartbeat of Los Angeles.” Their music moves fluidly through salsa, cumbia, samba, funk, merengue, dancehall, New Orleans second line, Jamaican ragga, and Indian raga, woven into a sound that feels both global and grounded.

In 2026, Ozomatli is creating new music while expanding how they meet audiences, from full- scale concerts to more intimate, storytelling-driven formats and residency-style engagements. Community remains central to everything they do, with music that invites people of all ages and backgrounds to gather, move, and connect. Ozomatli continues as a living reflection of Los Angeles, evolving, collaborative, and alive. The soundtrack carries on.
